A mix of cold and abstract electronics softened up by some twinkly melodies. There's some editing done to some of the tracks. Created in January of 2008. The recording is split into five thematic parts and presented as a zip file.

Utopia In Blue

A tag team with DJ Kel with some deeper sounds but not afraid to get jacking. Sound quality is pants, unfortunately. As usual for the pairing the sound spans the early-90's through relatively recent times pretty evenly.

Best Of 2010 Mix

My most played tracks of the year in one mix. It's very lightly mixed and split into individual tracks and comes in a zip file. There's a fairly big amount of pop sounding stuff and hardly any techno. Gotta give a shout out to my friends at the More Or Less record label for putting out a very strong release this year, Skipper Tracks, a track off which appears here.

Dopalite

Pretty much all techno in this mix, almost all from the 90's, mostly Detroit sounding stuff. It's pretty banging in the first half. Then I took a lunch break in the middle of Moaner and when I came back the mix mellowed out a lot. The mixing is a bit rough but the mix is a lot of fun. The tracklist is approximate as I was pulling records off the shelves without any planning.

Tag team with DJ Kel

DJ Kel came over my house and we played some records. I was recording this on a new laptop and it sounds like shit, almost like it came through the microphone. I am not sure but it may just be that the Analog-Digital Converter on that soundcard is bad. Since it sounds terrible anyway I compressed it in a space and bandwidth saving 96kbps. It's like 1998 up in here.

Hardwax mix

Here's a mix made with records I picked up at Hardwax. I started recording earlier in the day but about an hour into it I realised that I didn't plug in the line in into the computer. Doh! So after a couple hours I decided to try again. I didn't want to use the same tracks because whenever I am having a good mix that doesn't get recorded and then try to recreate it again while recording it comes out awful. So this is not what I intended but the records are so good that there are no bad tracks on them. It is a bit short though.

1. Chez Damier & Ron Trent - Foot Therapy (Prescription). Detroit house classic gets a repress. Dope Jams has a hilarious rant about how this masterpiece is not getting the respect it deserves from the label.

2. Game One - Think Quick (Metroplex). Not really familiar with this track. Such nice bass and electro beats with a little acid. Reminds me of Ifach stuff. The name is very appropriate as I discovered. It stops in the middle and restarts on the offbeat so a DJ you gotta either cut the other track there or compensate somehow.

3. Brandon Moeller - Fixer (Third Ear). After the awesome Jazz Space EP (I can't believe that was 3 years ago now) I keep an eye on Moeller's work and this is a fine return to form. Four varied tracks ranging from dub techno to house to dubstep.

4. EQD - Equalized #001 (Equalized). As I beheld it I knew I would have to pick it up. Played out maybe but this really was one of the defining records of 2008.

5. Norman Nodge - ManMade (Marcel Dettman). One of many recent Berghain-style techno releases.

6. Shackleton - In The Void (Skull Disco). Final release on Skull Disco. Shackleton slows down to match the tempo of German techno, maybe to fit in better with his appreciative audience there. Anyway, it works. This particular track sounds very much like one of the tracks on the 6th Skull Disco that I already owned. The flip side features a poem over a typical Shackleton bass abyss.

7. Gowentgone - Ibex (Marcel Fengler Remix) (Vidab). What a powerful record. Both sides sound like they are strapped on to a Saturn V rocket. One from the wantlist. And I am an idiot. I just realised that Gowentgone is merely the three forms of the verb "to go".

8. Kre - Untitled (b3) (Numb). A mysterious white label record I stumbled upon and correctly placed around 2000. The only thing differentiating it from the Berghain techno popular now is the speed, I had to play it at -7 or so, and the slightly less bassy and spacey production. I have a fondness for this sort of toolish, Millsian techno.

I wasn't sure if it was too messy to post but it seems ok after finally listening to it and the tracks are so good. This is pure 1992-93 breakbeat hardcore. Corrrr rush rush rush.

  2. Rainbow Country - Live Together. Damn. This is a tune. I don't think I played this either.

  4. Acen - Window In The Sky (Nino's Night Remix) (Production House). This is a dope EP. The remixes are all quite different.

  8. Dragon Fly - Wine Your Button (BTB). This is an awesome 4 tracker. On pink vinyl.
  9. Force Mass Motion - Explosion (Rabbit City) FMM is so good. Numbers 5, 6 and 7 on Rabbit City are sheer class.
  10. Konspiracy - ? (Ruff Quality)
  11. The Dark Syndicate - Feel The Fire (Rising High). One of the few junglistic releases on Rising High.
  12. Konspiracy - Rush (Ruff Quality) (not sure about this)
  13. Noise Factory - Bring Forth The Noise (Ibiza). The mix starts to fall apart a bit at this point.
  14. Tic Tac Toe - Ephemerol (Mickey Finn Remix) (Tic Tac Toe).
  15. Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era - Peace & Loveism (4 Hero Remix) (Pyrotech) Mental.
